CREATIVE MOVEMENT (ages 3-4)

This class is designed to teach our youngest students to love dance. It focuses on coordination, motor skill development, listening skills, and creative expression. We introduce the concepts of warming up, stretching, and use activities and movements that enhance cognitive and social development. Students learn classroom etiquette and are introduced to the relationship between dance, rhythm, and music. This a 30 minute class for students ages 3-4. Class Requirements: MUST be potty trained

KINGDOM BALLERINAS (ages 3-4)

Learn the foundations of ballet, worship dance, and your royal identity as a child of God! This 40 minute class is designed with our youngest dancers in mind. Students will be introduced to age-appropriate ballet technique, worship dance concepts, and creative expression through movement in addition to weekly devotionals. This class is offered three times a year in 10-week sessions and will have a parent viewing event at the end of the 10th class. Class Requirements: MUST be potty trained

PRE-BALLET A-B (ages 5-7)

This class is designed to introduce students to a more formal study of classical ballet through age appropriate skill development, creative expression, and music appreciation, while exploring the connection between dance, rhythm, and music. Age appropriate ballet vocabulary is included in the lessons complemented by stretching and strengthening exercises in preparation for more formal training. Pre-Ballet is divided into two age groups. Group A is for dancers ages 5-7. Group B is for dancers ages 6-7. Both classes are 40 minutes in length. No prior dance experience needed.

BALLET I-V

Ballet is the foundation for all dance training. Students will be instructed in barre work, center floor work, and traveling steps in order to develop the essential technique of balance, body control, and muscle memory. Ballet also promotes flexibility and muscular strength while emphasizing correct body placement. Ballet classes are 55 minutes in length. These ballet classes are part of our performing arts track and are designed to allow students ages 7 & up to grow in their technical abilities year after year. INT/ADV BALLET TECHNIQUE

This class focuses solely on ballet technqiue with the goal of helping the dancer become stronger and grow more quickly in their technical dance abilities. This class class is meant to be supplemental and not a replacement for our Ballet I-V classes. Students interested in Pointe Prep/Pointe classes should enroll in this class in addition to their placment class in order to make sure their bodies are strong and ready to tackle pointe work. Instructor permission required. This class does not participate in the spring dance production.

POINTE PREP (ages 10+)

Students in this class will spend time strengthening and/or maintaining their muscles in preparation for pointe work. This class may be done in either ballet slippers (for those not yet on pointe) or in pointe shoes (for more advanced students). Students should be at least 10 years old and have a significant history of ballet training. Simultaneous enrollment in Ballet IIB-V as well as instructor permission is required. This class does not participate in the spring dance production.

POINTE (ages 12+)

Pointe work is undertaken when the student has developed a strong foundation of ballet technique, and when the legs and feet are sufficiently developed. Students interested in Pointe work should be at least 12 years old and have a significant history of ballet training. Simultaneous enrollment in Ballet IV-V is required for entry into this class. Placement is by invitation only.

HOMESCHOOL BALLET (ages 8+)

Our homeschool dance classes offer families quality dance instruction in a family-friendly atmosphere. Homeschool Ballet is best suited for beginner/intermediate level students. Dancers will be instructed in barre work, center floor work, and traveling steps in order to develop the essential technique of balance, body control, and muscle memory. Ballet also promotes flexibility and muscular strength while emphasizing correct body placement.

BALLET/JAZZ COMBO (ages 5-7)

This class combines the disciplines of ballet and jazz dance techniques, giving the dancer exposure to both genres in a 40 minute class. Students will be introduced to barre work, center floor work, and traveling steps to promote balance, body control, and muscle memory during the ballet portion of the class. The jazz portion will include stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and “across the floor” exercises including turns and leaps followed by a combination that is usually fast-paced and rhythmically-based. This is a great class to introduce kids two the two most popular dance techniques. 
 
JAZZ I-II
 
Jazz is the style of dance often seen on Broadway or television. This class will include stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and “across the floor” exercises including turns and leaps followed by a combination that is usually fast-paced and rhythmically-based. Jazz I is for dancers ages 8 & up. Jazz II is for dancers ages 10 & up and requires placement.
 

HIP-HOP DANCE

Our hip-hop classes are upbeat and full of energy! Each class will consist of a cardio warm-up, isolations & rhythms, stretching & strengthening exercises, as well as hip-hop combinations culminating in a dance for our year-end concert. Hip-Hop classes are 40 minutes in length. No prior dance experience is needed. We take special care to use modest music and movements so that students can experience this powerful dance style in a positive and family-friendly environment.
  • Kids Hip-Hop (ages 7-9): This is a great introductory class for your energetic, younger dancer that focuses on rhythms and personal expression while promoting an active lifestyle. 
  • Homeschool Hip-Hop (ages 8+): A high-energy class designed specifically for our homeschool families that teaches coordination and musicality alongside fun & funky dance combinations.
  • Boys/Girls Hip-Hop (ages 10+): These classes focus on more complex dance combinations and rhythms in addition to a high-energy warm-up and fast-paced across the floor progressions. We also give a basic introduction to specialized hip-hop styles such as breaking, popping, locking, and tutting.
 

CONTEMPORARY DANCE IA-B

Contemporary dance fuses the techniques of ballet, modern, and jazz techniques and allows room for more creativity and personal expression in choreography. This class involves a long center warm-up that includes stretching and strengthening exercises followed by across the floor progressions and a variety of powerful and expressive dance combinations. Contemporary dance classes are 55 minutes in length. Level IA is for dancers ages 9+ and level IB is for dancers ages 12+.

MODERN DANCE TECHNIQUE (teen/adult)

This class teaches students the rudimentary movements that are the foundation to classical modern dance technique. Students will focus on contractions, spirals, floor work, and elemental concepts of space, time, and force. Several different styles of modern dance (ex./ Cunningham, Horton, and Hawkins) will be explored throughout the year, each including a variety of exercises, improvisations, and movement combinations that will allow the dancer to become comfortable moving his/her body in new ways.

ADULT DANCE FITNESS (teen/adult)

This is an open-level dance fitness class for adults. No prior dance experience needed to participate. Students will be guided through a Horton-based modern dance warm-up, modern & pilates floor work for core strength, ballet barre exercises for lower body toning, standing work with props for upper body toning, and active isolated stretching to increase flexibility. After registering, students must purchase a minimum "4-Visit Class Pass" in order to participate in the class. Class passes work like a punch card which we will "digitally punch" for each week you attend.
